The world is getting too impersonal these days. We hardly communicate in a physical way anymore. We send emails instead of snail mails. We send e-cards and e-greetings instead of the good old traditional cards made out of papers.
People simply do not write letters or send postcards anymore. It’s considered old fashioned, not cost effective, and the environmentalist will consider it a waste of paper and environmentally unfriendly.
But then again, emails and e-cards simply does not have the charms of the good old fashion letters and postcards have, do they? Emails can be easily directed to spam by mistakes and most e-cards have expiry dates. Most e-cards can only be viewed for a certain period of time and when the times comes, the e-card will expired and can never be viewed again. Emails and e-cards make terrible keepsake and mementos, unlike the real thing.
Letters and postcards may be old fashion and environmentally unfriendly, but they will never be directed to spam box by mistake or expired when you want to read them again after a year or two.
Emails and e-cards are impersonal and almost robotic in some ways.The good old letters and postcards have their own charms, don’t you think? They could the sender’s sincerity towards the receiver.
Anyway, if you want to show your warmth and sincerity to someone you love on special occasions or while you’re away on vacations in rural areas where Internet connection is non-existent, I’d say, writing letters to them and sending them postcards is a good way to communicate with your loved ones.
Postcards may not be convenient in many of occasions, but sometimes, it’s good to send our loved ones something physical. It gives them something to look back on and remember us by.
